School Crossing Guard Salary $15.00 Hourly Location Menomonee Falls, WI Job Type Part-Time Department Police Department Job Number 2021-200-000-01 DESCRIPTION BENEFITS Primary Function Entry level position that reports to the Patrol Support Unit Supervisor. Responsible for the control and coordination of the safe movement of vehicular traffic and pedestrians at crosswalks along common pedestrian routes to and from schools. Represent the Department in a professional manner as a non-sworn, non-uniformed member. Safely stop vehicular traffic by entering a highway to allow pedestrians to cross at designated crosswalks. Direct pedestrians crossing at designated crosswalks as to when and how to cross safely. Use traffic control equipment, including but not limited to a hand-held stop sign and reflective traffic vest. Report incidents and conditions detrimental to the safety of pedestrians and motorists to the Department as soon as practicable. Report to assigned post in a timely manner and communicate expected absences to the Department to arrange a substitute. Maintain a pleasant, courteous and helpful manner when communicating with children, the public, school officials and other Department personnel. CITIZENSHIP Must be a Wisconsin resident PHYSICAL TASKS AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS Ability to stand, walk or be on one’s feet for extended periods of time and in all weather conditions Ability to see and hear sufficiently well so as to perceive voices and traffic Ability to learn or possess general knowledge of traffic and pedestrian safety Possess physical ability and motor skills to perform tasks OTHER Must be at least 18 years of age Ability to work flexible hours in the morning, mid-day and afternoon during the school year Pass a background investigation Please refer to Police Department Directive 5104.11 for additional details.
