Part-Time Fire Inspector Salary $20.00 Hourly Location Menomonee Falls, WI Job Type Part-Time Department Fire Department Job Number 2022-220-06 DESCRIPTION BENEFITS Primary Function The primary duty of this position is to perform fire code inspections. This position is also responsible for providing public education related to fire and life safety. Major Duties and Responsibilities Demonstrate the ability to conduct a field inspection, interpret codes and standards, effectively communicate orally and in writing. Investigate complaints, record appropriate information and initiate appropriate process to resolve the complaint. Demonstrate the ability to identify and apply the codes and standards adopted by the jurisdiction. Demonstrate the ability to testify at legal proceedings, presenting information accurately and displaying appropriate demeanor. Demonstrate the ability to calculate occupant loads, using measuring tools, a calculator and field sketches of the occupancy. Demonstrate the ability to observe, identify deficiencies and report noted deficiencies so that means of egress elements of an existing building are maintained in accordance with applicable codes and standards of the jurisdiction. Verify the type of construction for an addition or remodeling project. Demonstrate the ability to observe, make decisions, recognize problems, and read reports. Demonstrate the ability to observe, recognize problems and make decisions regarding hazardous conditions involving equipment, processes and operations. Demonstrate the ability to read plans, recognize problems, make decisions and apply the codes and standards of the jurisdiction. Demonstrate the ability to identify the emergency evacuation requirements contained in the applicable codes and standards of the jurisdiction, and interpret plans and reports. Demonstrate the ability to identify the emergency access requirements contained in the applicable codes and standards, observe, make decisions, and use measuring tools. Verify fire flows for a given site, determine flow available at the desired residual pressure, and document the results. Have a thorough knowledge of and comply with all Department SOG, policies and procedures, SO, Village policies, and supervisor's directions and orders. Be proficient in the use and maintenance of all tools, equipment, medical supplies and vehicles used by the Department. Perform cleaning and maintenance of Department facilities and equipment. Ensure all necessary reports and paperwork are completed in a correct and timely manner. Participate in Department trainings, complete all mandatory trainings, and attend outside classes to enhance skills. Perform first aid and CPR skills. Make periodic inspections of buildings for fire hazards. Participate in school fire drills and other fire prevention and public relation activities. Drive and operate Department apparatus to include mini pumpers, vans, cars, ambulances, pickup trucks, and tow trailers. Maintain effective communications with all levels of the Department. Order supplies and maintain accurate inventories. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications At time of hire Be at least 18 years of age Hold a high school diploma or equivalent Hold a valid Wisconsin driver’s license Have five (5) years of experience in the fire service Additional preferred State of Wisconsin certifications, licenses and/or degrees Fire Inspector I Commercial Building Inspector Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Science CPR First Aid Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS There are physical demands that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Exposure to loud noise with a minimum of 90 decibels and vibrations from tools, equipment, machinery, etc. Exposure to hazardous conditions such as: mechanical / electrical, chemical, burns, explosives, heights, physical injury, and fast-moving vehicles. Exposure to atmospheric conditions such as: fumes, gases, noxious odors, dust, poor ventilation. Exposure to blood borne pathogens: blood on self and clothing from emergency medical service (EMS) related calls. EQUIPMENT USED Calculator, copy machine, computer, fax machine, telephone, two-way radio. Car, pickup truck, van, ambulance, lawn mower, and snow blower. Other equipment as required.
