The best way to avoid this is by following the manufacturer’s recommended schedule for servicing the fluid inside the transmission. However, even with proper maintenance sometimes things can still go wrong. If you’re experiencing symptoms such as delays in shifting or not shifting into gear at all, gears slipping, surging, strange sounds, burning smells, or hearing gears grinding can all be indications of transmission issues. Most manufacturers recommend transmission fluid to be serviced at a specific service interval according to their specific recommendations found in your owners’ manual.
